Venezuela Oil

Slowing Narco-Terrorism Is Important but Taking Control of Venezuela’s Oil Was the Prize

by Carlos Loa
January 4, 2026

President Donald Trump announced yesterday that the United States would take direct control of Venezuela’s operations following the swift capture of Nicolás Maduro in a targeted military strike. The move ends years of Maduro’s iron-fisted Marxist rule, which plunged the once-prosperous nation into economic ruin and humanitarian crisis. With Maduro now in U.S. custody in New York facing multiple charges, the White House has outlined plans to stabilize the country, starting with its vast oil reserves—the largest in the world.

Trump, speaking at a press conference, made no secret of America’s stake in Venezuela’s petroleum wealth. “We’re going to be taking a tremendous amount of wealth out of the ground,” he said, emphasizing that U.S. oil companies would invest billions to repair the dilapidated infrastructure left by Maduro’s regime.

  • Not All “Survival Food” Supplies Are Created Equal

He added that the U.S. would “run” Venezuela temporarily to ensure a smooth transition, with American firms leading the revival of crude production. This comes after years of sanctions that crippled Venezuela’s output, dropping from over 3 million barrels a day to barely 800,000 under Maduro’s mismanagement.

The question lingering in many minds is whether this intervention amounts to seizing Venezuela’s oil as “compensation” for ousting the dictator. Trump himself noted that the operation “won’t cost us anything” because private U.S. companies would foot the bill for rebuilding, in exchange for access to the fields. Critics abroad call it neo-colonialism, but supporters see it as a practical solution to repay the debts Maduro racked up—debts that include billions owed to American firms from past expropriations under his predecessor, Hugo Chávez. Chevron and other majors lost assets worth tens of billions when the socialist government nationalized the industry in 2007.

Delving deeper, Maduro’s fall didn’t happen in a vacuum. Reports from last year revealed he desperately offered the U.S. majority control of Venezuela’s oil and gold reserves to lift sanctions and avoid conflict, according to The New York Times. Trump rejected the deal at the time, opting instead for a blockade of Venezuelan tankers that starved the regime of revenue. That strategy, combined with a $50 million bounty on Maduro’s head, set the stage for his capture. Now, with power handed to Vice President Delcy Rodríguez—a Maduro loyalist and former oil minister—the U.S. appears positioned to extract concessions, perhaps including preferential oil deals.

Some observers whisper of broader forces at play. China, which loaned Venezuela $19 billion tied to oil shipments, stands to lose big if U.S. firms dominate exports. Russia, too, had propped up Maduro with military aid and relocated Venezuelan oil operations to evade sanctions.

Could this be part of a larger pushback against Beijing and Moscow’s influence in the Western Hemisphere? Trump’s blockade last December, which dried up Maduro’s $200 million weekly oil income, forced his hand, but whispers suggest internal betrayals—maybe even from Rodríguez herself—greased the wheels for the U.S. raid.

All of this appears to be a path through which the United States can get access to Venezuela’s vast oil reserves before Russia and/or China could. Both adversarial nations have had their sights set on Venezuela oil but had problems of their own to deal with closer to home, limiting the ways they could integrate. They were also forced to try to make a deal while keeping the friendly leadership structure in Venezuela intact. The United States was not held back by such constraints.

On the ground, Venezuelans face uncertainty. Opposition leader María Corina Machado, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate and vocal Trump ally, waits in the wings, ready to lead a pro-American government. Her vision aligns with free markets and dismantling socialism, potentially unlocking prosperity. Yet, the U.S. role in selling “large amounts” of Venezuelan oil to global markets, as Trump put it, raises eyebrows. Will revenues truly flow back to rebuild schools and hospitals, or will they line corporate pockets?

Energy markets reacted mildly so far, with analysts predicting no immediate price spikes despite the drama. Brent crude hovered around $75 a barrel today, buoyed by the prospect of increased Venezuelan supply under U.S. oversight. For America, this could mean cheaper imports and greater energy security, reducing reliance on Middle Eastern suppliers. Trump framed it as a win: “We’re in the oil business.”

Faithful Americans might recall Proverbs 14:34—“Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” Maduro’s regime, marked by corruption, voter fraud in elections, and brutal suppression of dissent, embodied that reproach. Removing him aligns with pursuing justice, though the oil entanglement tests the line between liberation and self-interest.

As details emerge, one thing is clear: Venezuela’s oil, long a curse under tyrants, could become a blessing if managed wisely. The U.S. has the chance to guide that path, ensuring the resource serves the people rather than propping up dictators. Time will tell if this bold step restores order or sparks new conflicts in the region.

Gee. I wonder why we can’t get this same kind of decisive action, perp walks, and arrests against the corrupt government criminals who flaunted and inflicted their abusive actions on us during the past administration?

Gee… Maybe it has something to do with the fact that Maduro and wife already had been indicted? Nothing can get done instantly and with so many bad guys on the list, you are just gonna have to wait.

Of course the President of Honduras was not only “indicted” by us, but convicted and imprisoned for a long time for selling massive shiploads of drugs to the US and killing our people . Trump just pardoned him and set him free to do more free market capitalism in our hemisphere. Strange but true.

Bullshit. If we take all that country’s gold, silver and oil it’s still not enough to pay for the one million Americans that regime killed with illegal drugs.

Dear Venezuelans (and all other people of all other former sovereign nations)
As Tony Soprano would say, “you gotta do whatcha gotta do” to pay the bills”. I am now your Leader. I will be putting a fellow Latino in charge of your affairs for a while . He has small hands. He will explain how we now own your stuff. Theft is something that the new MAGA is going to excel at. And “armed theft” is the best. Going forward, everyone must know that “there’s a new Capo in town” and we are no longer wearing White Hats. You won’t even see us. Just some piano wire across your neck. Law schwmaw. We don’t have to show you no stinkin’ badges. We know you are criminal and selling drugs so we are here to make you more virtuous. And that starts with giving us your oil, your silver, your gold and your young children. My little Cuban Floridian will be stopping in once a week to make sure the new arrangement is good for you. Keep up the celebrations.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

    Peacefully yours,

    Don CorleTrump

The Bible sets the penalty for swindling and theft at 20% (Numbers 5:7, etc.)

Once the facilities and infrastructure, which the socialists stole, are returned to the rightful owners, I’d say it would be wise to work to keep the profits at or below that number, making sure the rest stays in Venezuela. Everybody will benefit from lower fuel prices, due to increased production. The rest of OPEC will be incinerated to update their operations to keep the cost of production low.

There’s a lot of good that can come out of this, as long as we do not try to recompense evil for evil. Keep it all above table and on public record. Pay the Venezuelans well. Be good to them. Help rebuild their economy. They’ve been beaten down, enslaved, raped and pillaged by the socialist swindlers. And right now they are understandably full of hope. This can be a win-win, and there’s no reason it shouldn’t be. That hope they now have is what will rebuild their country. The incentive to work is how the oil is gotten out of the ground, and how the rest of their economy is rebuilt. Let’s not let them down.

      will be *Incentivized

Trump worked extensively during his first admin with Saudi Arabia, UAE, and other somewhat friendly members of OPEC to keep production up and prices down. Now, Iran, is about the only extremely hostile country remaining in that group, and it is a lot less of a cartel, holding the world hostage, than it used to be. Competition has helped break up that monopoly, and will continue to do so.

Trump was right to shore up the western hemisphere in our favor (Monroe doctrine) and keep China and Russia out. What’s more, he will learn how those voting machines were used to keep Chavez and Maduro in power. These are the same machines the leftists eagerly bought up and installed across CA and elsewhere, which helped them sweep away all opposition.

Do it right. Do good by them, and countries around the world will be begging US companies to set up operations and create jobs.

Do it wrong. Get greedy. Loose the idiots at the CIA to make a mess of things. Do the Venezuelans dirty, and the next thing you know they’ll be buying into the lies of thieves, swindlers, and enslavers like Chavez. Then they’ll be back in the same mess again, if not worse, and nobody will want a US company anywhere near their shores.

There is plenty of incentive to go around here. A great opportunity for a big win-win. Let’s not mess it up.

This is exactly how Saudi Arabia got its start. In 1945, after Yalta, FDR urged the sheiks to allow US companies to help their country export oil. To our detriment, we became addicts to their supply. It’s best we do that within our own neighborhood.

Oil is a global commodity. We get it where we can get it. We use what we need. And we hope the supply is high enough, and not held down on purpose as OPEC has done in the past, so the prices will be affordable. And the production costs need to be low enough to sustain those lower prices, which is why modernizing the facilities will be a good thing. We’re not “addicted” to any oil from any specific country. Nobody said anything about stopping production here.

We cannot go around treating everybody, including ourselves, as if they’re guilty till proven innocent, and keep them down and impoverished just because we kinda sorta suspect they might do something bad sometime down the road. We’re better than that. Saudi Arabia is responsible for the sins of Saudi Arabia, and that has nothing to do with oil.

Your reasoning is about like communist reasoning. Right. Lock everybody in the world up in a padded prison cell because something bad might happen. Enslave everybody. Take away their liberty. Take their guns. Take their right to speak. That’s just as bad as Chavez and Maduro.

Today I’m going to be happy for the Venezuelan people, who are happy. They’ve been beaten down, enslaved, and destroyed for too long. And I’m not going to allow myself to start thinking about a bunch of paranoid “what ifs”, that would be nothing short of a bunch of deceitful false accusations, not five seconds after they’ve been freed. I’m going to give them a chance. And we all should do so. As we all would want done to us. I don’t like being falsely accused or suspected of a bunch of mess. So I’m not going to do that to anybody else.

We must do what’s right. Do what God says is right. And put the words “In God we Trust” into action. Letting Him worry about the rest.

We also don’t know that opening up the oil was specifically to our detriment. During WWII, the Allies and Axis were at war all across the globe for much needed resources like oil. The same was done to Iran, and other countries.

It’s what was done after the war, and throughout the cold war, that caused problems. Much of the time with the CIA messing things up. Basically it just kept going as if the war hadn’t ended, and has been doing so ever since. Though I believe they’re not as bad now as they have been in the past. Much of the mess has been consequences of the CIA’s sins …

One poster said in the old days, the CIA would’ve just assassinated Maduro. And that’s correct. The CIA screwed up half the planet with such shenanigans, and wickedness, that don’t really solve any problems at all, because there’s always a next guy who will sell the people a load of snake oil and do the same thing the last guy did. So Trump is doing the right thing by capturing him, putting him on trial, with due process. That’s how it should be done. And we need to give the same presumption of innocence and due process to the people of Venezuela. That’s the right way to do things.

You also have to remember, Venezuelans are Catholic by a large margin. You won’t find many islamic jihadists in Venezuela.

Nothing good ever results from wickedness. Do what God says is right. Put our posteriors where our mouth says “In God we Trust”, and He’ll take care of the rest. He is not a liar. His way is always the best way.

In the 50’s, 60’s & 70’s, Regime change was simple – the CIA was used to terminate rogue leaders throughout South America and the Caribbean – mostly under direction of Democrat regimes. Trump’s doing it the right way, in accordance with the UN charter also.

America is dying in real time and we’re doing shit like this. Maduro never raised my taxes, he didn’t raise my premiums, he didnt raid the treasury, he didn’t flood my hometown with illegals.

At least you’re honest enough to admit some of the truth this is about oil and Zionist telling trump what to do. All of you who are still maga have to grow up. Stop being mental midgets and call out bullshit when you see it.. Trump is controlled and isn’t doing anything he promised. As a matter of fact he promised not to do this over and over and over again. But hey zionist run our country so here we are..

    Grow up

Well, see that’s where you’re wrong there, my friend. Just high oil prices, alone, significantly contribute to higher taxes, higher premiums, and raided treasuries. Not to mention all the drugs and cartel operations here, none of which pay taxes, pay premiums, and many of which are on the dole. Meanwhile, many of the people coming here illegally are trying to escape socialist cesspools like Venezuela.

Your static thinking is not thinking at all. There are many dynamics involved.

I don’t know how in the world you could possibly connect this to Israel. Seems to me you just want to blame Jews for every bad thing on the planet, and will twist yourself into a pretzel more than a carnival sideshow contortionist, in order to try to make it so.

As I understand,, Their oil is low grade high sulfur garbage.
However, they have been under sanctions for years as the US President ignored them sending that garbage oil to countries who do not care about pollution, and giving maduro $billions for his personal use.
So,, if this is really about “oil” it is about stopping a sanctioned product being exported by a tyrant and making his regime even richer and stronger.
I believe I can live with the positives, verses, some little bitches yapping about orange man bad.
