Tim Burchett Compares Jasmine Crockett’s Senate Bid to “The Monkees”

by Morgan G. Murphy
December 13, 2025

Rep. Jasmine Crockett has jumped into the race for Texas’s U.S. Senate seat, challenging Republican incumbent John Cornyn in what promises to be a tough fight. She filed her paperwork earlier this week and rolled out her campaign with a video featuring clips of President Trump criticizing her, followed by an event that drew mixed reactions.

But not everyone is impressed. Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) went on Fox News and delivered a pointed critique, likening Crockett to the 1960s band The Monkees.

  • Not All “Survival Food” Supplies Are Created Equal

“She’s like The Monkees or Hillary Clinton in front of a crowd. The Monkees were a rock and roll band in the 60s and 70s, it turned out they couldn’t play music or do anything,” he said. “They were created because they fit the bill. She sort of does that.”

He continued, “She gets in front of these groups, she gets her swag on, and you know, she’s throwing her hands out, and she’s saying all this wild stuff. But then you find out later, that’s not where she even came from. She’s educated, her family had money. She wasn’t the inner-city girl that she tries to make herself out to be.”

Burchett’s analogy hits at what he sees as a manufactured persona—one crafted for appeal rather than rooted in genuine experience. The Monkees, after all, were put together by producers for a TV show, complete with actors who looked the part but didn’t start as real musicians.

Crockett’s campaign launch leaned into confrontation, starting with Trump’s past jabs at her and including emotional moments. A recent poll from the University of Houston and Texas Southern University shows her leading the Democratic primary field, but Texas voters have a track record of favoring straightforward talk over staged drama.

Burchett wrapped up by predicting Texans will see through it. In a state that values authenticity and hard work, putting on an act might not play well come election day. Cornyn has held the seat solidly, and Republicans aren’t about to hand it over to someone chasing headlines with flair over substance.

I think he’s wrong . . . her ad was powerful and moving to the kind of people that will support her. She’s getting smarter by the minute, Republicans more coarse and diffuse. I would not be surprised if she won that Senate race. It will at least be close, no matter what. She is the ridiculous but powerful new face of the Progressive Left, who don’t all dig AOC as much as she’d like.

It’s time for Cornyn to step back. He’s a RINO and he should run for Tarrant County Dog catcher.

That’s right. They were all talented and had to push hard to be allowed to write and perform rather than lip-synch to canned music. That’s the opposite of Crockett who is a very low-IQ person performing as a public servant.

Please, please, let her win the primary! The republicans will be free to re-route money that would have gone into the Texas senate race!

    Most uncomplimentary towards The Monkees.

Exactly. Great band. And not only that, if any of the members left, they had the roster of the entire LA musician scene to choose from to fill it. Everyone wanted in that band.

      The hippies weren’t revolutionaries.

Terrible comparison. The Monkees were a great band.
