President Trump announced on Truth Social that he will be designated Antifa as a terrorist organization. He also said he will be “strongly recommending” for those who have been funding Antifa to be investigated and held accountable.
I am pleased to inform our many U.S.A. Patriots that I am designating ANTIFA, A SICK, DANGEROUS, RADICAL LEFT DISASTER, AS A MAJOR TERRORIST ORGANIZATION. I will also be strongly recommending that those funding ANTIFA be thoroughly investigated in accordance with the highest legal standards and practices. Thank you for your attention to this matter!
President Trump’s designation revives a 2020 pledge made amid George Floyd protests, when he first threatened to label Antifa a terrorist group but faced legal hurdles over its decentralized nature.
The move comes days after the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, with authorities linking the suspect to Antifa slogans and online radical content.
The post regarding the announcement appeared on the official White House X account and had over 10K reposts in less than an hour after dropping.

Utah police arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson within 36 hours of Kirk’s killing, marking what FBI Director Kash Patel called a historic investigative breakthrough. White House deputy chief Stephen Miller vowed to use the incident’s outrage to uproot left-wing networks, signaling broader crackdowns beyond the designation.
Trump also called for probes into Antifa funders, potentially invoking racketeering laws as discussed with his attorney general. He has specifically called out the George Soros networks as likely targets of investigations.
The announcement aligns with recent administration talks on domestic extremism, escalating after Kirk’s death tied to gaming culture and memes.
Antifa’s proclaimed roots trace to 1930s Europe opposing fascism, evolving in the U.S. to confront conservative groups through direct action, often clashing at rallies. Their actions contradict their claimed calling; they often use tactics that can be described as fascist in nature as they pretend to be fighting fascism. Critics argue the label could chill free speech.
The designation may enable asset freezes or travel bans if adapted from foreign terror protocols, though implementation details remain unclear.
