The upcoming congressional hearing on unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP), set for September 9, promises to push the boundaries of government disclosure further than before.
Titled “Restoring Public Trust Through UAP Transparency and Whistleblower Protection,” the event arrives more than two years after David Grusch’s explosive 2023 testimony that first thrust the issue into the national spotlight. Grusch, a former intelligence official, alleged that the U.S. government and private aerospace companies possess “exotic craft and materials” recovered from crash sites, including what he described as “biologics”—non-human organisms. Those revelations, drawn from interviews with dozens of insiders, sparked widespread calls for accountability and fueled bipartisan frustration over perceived secrecy.
This new hearing, organized by the House Oversight Committee’s national security subcommittee, shifts the focus to firsthand accounts, a move that could lend fresh credibility to long-standing claims. Rep. Eric Burlison (R-Mo.), who represents Missouri’s 7th District and has become a driving force behind these efforts, told The Daily Wire that at least two witnesses will share direct experiences with UAP.
This marks a clear break from earlier sessions, where testimony often relied on relayed stories rather than personal encounters. Burlison’s involvement extends beyond the hearing itself; he’s collaborating with Grusch, now on his staff, to prepare a batch of interrogatory letters aimed at extracting more details from various government and private entities.
Burlison made it clear that these letters represent the real breakthrough. “I want people to know, regardless of how the hearing goes, to me, the most important thing that’s going to come out of it is the interrogatory letters that we will be dropping at the time of the hearing,” he said.
These documents, carrying official weight, could compel responses on everything from retrieval programs to potential national security risks. In an era of eroding trust in federal institutions, Burlison’s push reflects broader concerns about hidden programs wasting taxpayer dollars or compromising defense capabilities—issues that have echoed through prior UFO discussions.
Grusch’s earlier claims set the stage for this moment. During his 2023 appearance before the same subcommittee, he described a “multi-decade UAP crash retrieval and reverse-engineering program” run without congressional oversight.
He stopped short of detailing specifics in public, citing classification, but insisted the evidence pointed to non-human origins. The Pentagon has repeatedly denied these assertions, with spokespeople stating no verifiable proof of extraterrestrial activity or reverse-engineering efforts exists. Yet, Grusch’s testimony, backed by interviews with over 40 military and intelligence veterans, prompted the creation of the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) to investigate further—though critics argue it remains too opaque.
Building on that foundation, recent hearings have amplified the urgency. In November 2024, witnesses like Luis Elizondo, a former Pentagon counterintelligence officer, testified about advanced technologies monitoring U.S. military sites that defy known human engineering. Elizondo, author of Imminent: Inside the Pentagon’s Hunt for UFOs, claimed the government has recovered nonhuman specimens and operates under excessive secrecy.
“UAP are real. Advanced technologies not made by our Government – or any other government – are monitoring sensitive military installations around the globe,” he stated in prepared remarks.
Retired Navy Rear Adm. Tim Gallaudet added to the chorus, recounting a 2015 naval exercise where a UAP video mysteriously vanished from official emails the day after circulation.
These accounts align with pilot testimonies from years past. Cmdr. David Fravor, during the 2023 hearing, detailed his 2004 encounter off California’s coast: a seamless, tic-tac-shaped object that hovered over the ocean before accelerating beyond comprehension.
“I think what we experienced was, like I said, well beyond the material science and the capabilities that we had at the time, that we have currently or that we’re going to have in the next 10 to 20 years,” Fravor said.
Similarly, Ryan Graves, a former F-18 pilot, described routine sightings of cube-shaped objects inside transparent spheres during East Coast training flights. Such reports, captured on advanced sensors, suggest not isolated anomalies but a pattern warranting serious scrutiny.
As the September 9 hearing approaches—starting at 10 a.m. ET and streaming live on YouTube—lawmakers from both parties continue to demand better reporting mechanisms. The stigma around UAP discussions has faded somewhat, but witnesses like Elizondo warn of retaliation against those who speak out, including what he called “administrative terrorism.” With Burlison’s letters poised to probe deeper, this could be the session that forces long-withheld answers into the open, addressing not just curiosity about the unknown but core questions of transparency and security in American governance.
