(RAIR Foundation)—Two Afghan asylum seekers have been charged over the alleged rape of a 12-year-old girl, an incident that has left a small Midlands town in shock, the Mail on Sunday can reveal.
Ahmad Mulakhil, 23, has been charged with the rape of a minor in Nuneaton, Warwickshire.
A second man, Mohammad Kabir, also 23, has been charged with aiding and abetting the rape, as well as strangling and abducting the girl, who is now receiving specialist care.
Despite the intense public interest the case has generated in Nuneaton, sources told the Mail on Sunday that Warwickshire Police have advised councillors and local officials not to reveal the two suspects’ asylum-seeker status, citing fears of “stoking community tensions.”
A local resident who contacted us accused the police of a “cover-up” intended to suppress information the public has a right to know.
